Author: Jack Prelutsky
Publisher: New York: Greenwillow Books, 2008.
Length: 158 Pages
Ages: 5-10
This anthology of poems isn’t technically a ‘chapter book’, but it is a longer read stacked with goofy, bubbly humour that will certainly keep children turning the pages. Children’s Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky has a way of combining kookiness and an expansive vocabulary which will make leveling-up reading comprehension skills an enjoyable activity. Words such as 'unprecedented', 'plight' and 'ostensible' become much more attainable and memorable when in the presence of such hilarious happenings as spontaneously turning into a zebra or coming head-to-head with a many-headed, many-winged 'snoober'.
