Ling & Ting: Not exactly the same!

Author: Grace Lin
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2013
Length: 48 pages
Ages: 4-8

This is the endearing first edition of the multicultural book series starring identical twins Ling and Ting. It is an easier read, aimed at beginning readers aged 4-8, with the following sequels stretching a little longer than this first book. It is a great starting place, featuring vivid illustrations and an accessible, controlled vocabulary. Readers giggle along with the twins through 6 short chapters which highlight the ways that Ling and Ting differ. Their differences lead to amusing outcomes when cutting hair, making dumplings, and using chopsticks. Gentle humour and good-nature pervade this series. Youngsters will find this series eminently readable, which is what led to this book receiving the Giesel Award honorable mention.
